COVID-19 Update

To our valued customers and suppliers,

With the easing of restrictions to alert level 2 business operations have become simpler but safety remains our top priority.

Customers and Suppliers are now welcome on site and must sign the contact tracing form upon entry to the office. We are unable to accept Eftpos or cash payments. Please ensure orders are on account or prepaid in advance.

Where possible, we request suppliers to arrange meetings via phone or video chat.

To our valued customers,

We are now operating under alert level 3. Our warehouse facility is fully operational and has returned to normal operating hours. We have returned to our standard courier service meaning orders can be placed and dispatched same day up until 4pm.

While we are fully operational, safety is our top priority. Important health and safety procedures have been implemented which may cause delays.  

We are still only permitting transportation companies on site and are unable to facilitate customer collections at this time.

To our valued customers:

Smiths continues to operate under Alert Level 4. Our warehouse facility is operating 2 hours per day Monday – Friday from 9am – 11am. We continue to have one courier pickup each day at 11am. Orders received by 10:30am will be shipped same day.

As a convenience to our customers, Smiths online web shop has now reopened for essential products only. Orders will be vetted by our customer service team to ensure they’re essential. Products not deemed to be essential will be dispatched when Alert Level 4 is lifted.

To our valued customers and suppliers:

Following the recent announcement that the country is moving to Alert Level 4 to contain the community transmission of COVID-19, we are implementing a revised work plan.

Office-based roles such as customer service, technical support, and administrative services will remain fully operational to ensure our customers requirements will be met. Staff will fulfill these roles based from home.

 As part of the “supply chain for essential business,” our warehouse facility in Hamilton will remain operational but in a limited capacity.  We will only dispatch critical products to essential businesses. We have implemented alternative ways of working to ensure employees are safe and in a position to adhere to all government rules and regulations. This may cause delays to our standard service. 

Our warehouse facility will operate 3 hours per day Monday - Friday from 8am to 11am. Smiths can eliminate staff interaction during this short period, greatly reducing the possibility of COVID-19 transmission. We are reducing to one courier pickup per day at 11am. Orders submitted by 10:30am will be shipped same day.

To ensure we are shipping only critical products to essential businesses, we’ve temporarily disabled our online web shop. For those customers that utilize this facility, we apologize for the inconvenience. Please place critical orders via email sales@smithsnz.co.nz or via phone 0800 437 638.

At this time, only transportation companies are permitted on site. We are unable to facilitate customer collections.

To our valued customers and suppliers,


As the impact of COVID-19 continues to evolve globally and across New Zealand, we want to provide you with an update on how Smiths is approaching the situation.


Firstly, the health and safety of our staff, customers and suppliers are always our main priority. Smiths is carefully following the guidance from the Ministry of Health; we’ve increased our focus on good hygiene practices and requested staff to adhere to social distancing practices. As an added precaution, we have made the decision to cease all non-critical business travel. This means that our staff will not be visiting our customers or supplier branches for the foreseeable future. We also ask our suppliers to do the same and postpone visiting Smiths.


Smiths would like to provide assurance to you that we are prepared should the local impacts of COVID-19 change. Our aim is to provide ongoing customer support with no, or minimal disruption.


We have the technology and capability for all office-based roles to work remotely, and we have the business continuity planning in place to ensure our customer’s requirements will be met. Our business operations will continue. Only in the event of national compulsory isolation would we be unable to dispatch orders.


We have a robust supply chain and hold extensive inventory on all key products to ensure supply of goods is available to our customers. While we can’t predict all delays, rest assured that we are working closely with our suppliers and freight companies to ensure that we can reduce any potential disruptions to supply. We do kindly ask that our customers maintain normal purchasing volumes to help us avoid unnecessary disruptions.
